Immersive Spaces

What are the Benefits?

Immersive spaces can provide children with a unique and engaging learning experience. They can enhance children's imagination and creativity, promote active learning, and help them develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Immersive spaces can also improve children's social skills and provide opportunities for collaboration and teamwork. Additionally, these environments can be used to teach children about different cultures, history, and science in a fun and interactive way.

How they can help children with emotions?

Immersive spaces such as sensory rooms and calm spaces can be effective ways to help children understand and manage their emotions. These spaces can provide a safe and calming environment where children can explore and express their feelings in a non-threatening way. Additionally, they can help develop social-emotional skills and improve overall well-being.

Here are my top 4 ideas for making immersive spaces.

  1. Use large cardboard boxes to create a fort-like structure, and decorate with blankets, pillows, and fairy lights.
  2. You can use a pop up tent or tunnel, it's great to add coloured sensory balls, cushions and blankets.
  3. In the garden you can use varying materials to create a den structure.
  4. Create a cosy reading nook by placing a bookshelf or storage unit on its side to form a base, and adding a cushion, blankets, and fairy lights above.

Why we use these spaces during our classes?

They provide children with a space to be quiet and calm. It can help aid brain development, by allowing the brain the space to make sense of and store all the new information it has received. Our sessions are an hour long and are multi-sensory, it's important during this time that children have a space where they can go and take time to rest, look at a book and most importantly have that quality time with their parent/carer where it is just them in that moment.

P.S Remember play doesn't have to be complicated, sometimes less is more and provides more space for your baby/child to think and just be.
